About Me
I’m a runner on a healthy lifestyle mission!
On November 1st, 2009, I ran the NYC Marathon (my first!) with a fantastic group – Team for Kids. Ultimately, even though race day didn’t go as planned, I loved every minute of my experience.
My Running Story
Technically, I started running in the 8th grade when I joined the middle school track team. I was never very good, but I enjoyed it enough to continue through High School, where I still wasn’t very good. I ran the ‘longer’ distances, of 800 meters, 1 mile, and 2 miles.
In the 2 mile race, I came in last at practically every meet for an entire season. For some crazy reason I still stuck with it. After high school I ran occasionally for exercise, but it wasn’t until the spring of 2007 that I ran my first RACE.
A friend of mine from high school started doing local races where she lived in Virginia Beach. She talked about how much fun they were, and one day she suggested that I come down and run a race with her.
So, in March 0f 2007, in the middle of a snow storm, another friend and I drove down to Virginia Beach for the Shamrock 8K.
The morning of the race was especially cold for March. I was bundled up in many layers and my lungs burned from the cold air. Afterwards, I was freezing, and felt like I’d run a marathon!
Despite the low temps, and general feeling of being slow and out of shape, it was one of the most fun days I’ve ever had! The excitement I had leading up to the race was the complete opposite of the sheer dread I felt before high school track meets. This was FUN! I never realized running could be so exhilierating. I was hooked. I signed up for the Rock N’ Roll Half marathon that summer, and I’ve been A RUNNER ever since.
